Unlock Career Opportunities in the U.S.: Curricular & Optional Practical Training (CPT & OPT)
As we wrap up the year, itβs time to help your students understand valuable opportunities to gain real-world work experience in the U.S. through Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT).
Both programs allow F-1 visa holders to gain practical experience, earn income, and enhance their careers!

CPT offers students the chance to gain hands-on experience through paid internships during their studies. Here's what your students need to know:
Types of CPT:
On-campus (Part-time): Up to 20 hours per week.
Off-campus (Full-time): 40+ hours per week (but remember, 12+ months of full-time CPT will make students ineligible for OPT).
Optional Practical Training π€©
OPT is a great opportunity for F-1 students to work up to 12 months in the U.S. in a job related to their field of study. Students can choose to work before or after graduation! π
Types of OPT:
Pre-completion OPT: Work part-time while studying and full-time during breaks.
Post-completion OPT: Full-time work after graduation.
STEM OPT Extensions: Eligible STEM majors can extend OPT for 24 more months, totaling 36 months of real American work experience!
